Holds its shape empty, which is why I kept it
Bought this as a work bag rather than for a kid, and the structured shape is the reason it stayed. The body is off-white with a glossy black flap, straps and top handle, and the whole thing keeps its shape even half empty - it does not slump into a puddle the way soft nylon does, so it still looks deliberate sitting on a desk. The gold hardware is the other selling point: the buckles, the D-rings and the pyramid studs down the front strip all feel like metal rather than plated plastic, and the little snitch charm on the front ring swings freely when you walk. The wordmark across the flap is embossed and foil-filled, so it catches the light at an angle instead of sitting flat like a print. It takes an A4 folder and a tablet with room left over, and the wide opening means I am not digging around blind in the morning. Two things to know before you buy: the shoulder straps are flat with no padding, so a heavy load does press into your shoulders by the end of a commute, and the white back panel will pick up colour transfer from a dark coat. Sixty-nine dollars is real money, but the hardware and the shape are where it went.

Arrived in the Harry Potter paper bag, so the wrapping was already done
Ordered the Slytherin colourway for my son's birthday and it turned up in the blue Harry Potter paper bag in the second photo, which meant I was not hunting for wrapping paper at nine at night. The bag is white with a deep green flap - closer to a bottle green than the mossy shade the listing photos suggest, and better for it. The house crest tag hanging off the side is leather, stitched and riveted to a gold ring rather than printed card, and the Slytherin script across the flap is foil-stamped, so it throws a bit of light when he walks. There is an enamel snake medallion on a short drop under the buckle straps, and those straps carry pyramid studs and metal adjusters instead of the flimsy plastic sliders you usually see at this size. The boxy shape stands up on its own, the flap sits flat and the stitching is even all the way round. Two small notes: the glossy green flap shows fingerprints, and the paper bag is thin enough that it will not survive being reused. Sixty-nine dollars, and he has not put it down since.
